Articles and editorial on the church of Scientology - 1989-01-18
As for the Pinellas County tax situation, if this had been honestly researched, Koff would have found that the church of Scientology, in 1981, offered to pay the full amount of tax requested as a gift to the city that year and in years following, as a resolution to the matter.
Ron Schultz refused the gift, apparently less interested in the money than in carrying out some purpose best known perhaps only to himself. In fact, Schultz has taken more than 200 churches in Pinellas County to task over taxes, exemption from which is guaranteed in the Constitution. With Schultz's recent loss at the poll, it is apparent that the churches of Pinellas County, along with a lot of other voters, had had enough of Schultz's brand of property appraisal.
