(CNN) — A family of four was trapped in a Washington forest by a group of people, some armed, who had tailed them to their campsite after asking if they were Antifa members.

The multiracial family — a husband and wife, their 16-year-old daughter and the husband's mother — had driven Wednesday from their home in Spokane to camp on the Olympic Peninsula. They stopped in the town of Forks to buy supplies, the Clallam County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

At the store, they were confronted by "seven or eight carloads of people" who repeatedly asked the family if they were with Antifa, police said.
