OTTAWA—Conservative party finance critic Ed Fast says he's disturbed by a promise by leadership candidate Pierre Poilievre to fire the governor of the Bank of Canada.

Fast, who is also helping run Jean Charest's leadership bid, said Poilievre's position undermines the party's credibility on economic issues.

Poilievre has said the current governor, Tiff Macklem, ought to be fired given the bank's failure to meet inflation targets, and over what Poilievre claims was its role in driving billions in government pandemic spending.
