Seat 2 City Commission candidate Marge Calderbank at most of her campaign appearances has warned about the growing influence of Scientology in Clearwater, carrying on the fight once waged by her son, former City Commissioner Jim Calderbank.

She's tried without success to get the other candidates and the public to take up the gauntlet - with one exception. At one forum each of the candidates was asked if he had ever done business with the Scientologists. They all said they had not done so knowingly, but some pointed out that there undoubtedly are businesses in town owned by Scientologists who don't post that affiliation on the front door.
