Police arrested a man on suspicion of vandalism and a hate crime following a violent and apparently drunken outburst at the Church of Scientology in Pasadena on Friday evening, authorities said.

The man showed up at the facility, 35 S. Raymond Ave., shortly before 7:40 p.m. and attempted to go inside but was approached by church staff, Pasadena police Lt. Anthony Burgess said.

The man began making threats against the church and kicked a hole in the closed front door, according to the lieutenant.
