The bus driver, an employee of the church's Flag Service Organization in Clearwater, told church officials the injured man ran at the moving bus and punched a window before slipping under it, according to church spokesman Ben Shaw.

The bus was heading east on Cleveland Street near Washington Avenue at about 8:20 p.m. Tuesday when, police said, Milton Powell, 69, of 1365 Windsor Drive stepped into the roadway and was struck. Powell was then run over by the bus' rear wheels, police spokesman Wayne Shelor said.
