In this final installment of a three-part series on recovery, Jon is joined by our friend Chris Shelton, to talk about the stages of recovery from Scientology, destructive cults, or any authoritarian, abusive group or relationship.

Here is the list Jon and Chris are working from:

1. A history of subjection to totalitarian control over a prolonged period (months to years). Examples include hostages, prisoners of war, concentration camp survivors, and survivors of some religious cults. [Authors' note: We would remove the word 'religious' so as to include all systems of thought reform.] Examples also include those subjected to totalitarian systems in sexual and domestic life, including survivors of domestic battering, childhood physical or sexual abuse, and organized sexual exploitation.
