Scientology and hurricanes: Providing storms of comic relief in one disaster after another - 2018-10-21
Hurricane Michael made landfall at Mexico Beach and Panama City, Florida on October 10 as the third most powerful hurricane in U.S. history. The area was devastated by high winds and storm surge. Mirit Hendrickson and the Scientology Volunteer Ministers, fresh from their relief efforts following Hurricane Florence in North Carolina made preparations to travel to the Florida panhandle. The photo above shows Hendrickson and other VMs in Sumter County. It's an odd piece of public relations as this county is in rural central Florida, far from the disaster area.
Scientology's relief efforts remain the same. They collect small donations to buy toiletries at the dollar store which they assemble into hygiene packs which they distribute in the disaster area. Hendrickson briefed Scientology publics before the hurricane struck to encourage donations and to recruit volunteers to travel to the disaster area.
