On April 13 the South African Department of Social Development established a partnership with Scientology to disinfect their offices. The Volunteer Ministers then used a letter given to them to canvas door-to-door telling residents in the Gauteng province that they were authorized by the department to disinfect homes and businesses.

On April 16 the Acting Director-General Mzolisi Toni issued a statement warning residents against people pretending to be Scientology VMs to offer disinfection services. While it is possible, we are not convinced of the existence of impostor Scientologists. We have plenty of evidence of Scientologists going door-to-door and no evidence of impostors. Mr. Toni claims there is no partnership between the Department and Scientology and that they only allowed the VMs to disinfect their offices.
