Here are some updates:

Completion is near on the million-dollar restoration of the auditorium and entryway of the German House, a Lafayette Square landmark the Church of Scientology is redoing as an education center. The work that began last summer includes the repair and replacement of the auditorium's intricate plaster work.

The four-story brick building at 2345 Lafayette Avenue had been vacant nearly a decade when the church bought it for $1.9 million in 2007. The building opened in 1928 as a German cultural center, and later was home to two Christian schools before it was boarded up.
