We certainly understand why Masterson's team has stepped up their efforts in recent days. As we explained earlier, the prelim beginning on May 18 will present live testimony from the three victims he's accused of raping in incidents between [[:Category:2001|2001]] and [[:Category:2003|2003]], with only a limited opportunity for the defense to put on its own case. In a prelim the prosecutor is trying to convince the court, in this case [[:Category:Judge Charlaine Olmedo|Judge Charlaine Olmedo]], that there's enough cause to merit a trial, so the case presented is more limited than in a full-blown trial. If Masterson is convicted at trial, he's facing 45 years to life in prison.</span>
