Every once in a while, we like to remind readers what it is that keeps Scientologists committed to going up the "Bridge to Total Freedom," a pursuit that takes years of expensive auditing, brutal interrogations, and extortionate pricing.

As many former church members have told us, one of the things that kept them going through that harrowing experience were the stories told by more experienced Scientologists, egging them on with stories of their fabulous "wins" and "gains" once they managed to go "OT."

Scientology even enshrines that practice in one of its magazines. We've long had a fascination for the "OT Phenomena" column of Advance! magazine, and it's also been a favorite of our readers. Each month, advanced church members who have gone through the "Operating Thetan" auditing levels — which cost tens of thousands of dollars each — tell mysterious tales of how their OT powers, gained on those levels, have impacted their lives.
