A judge presiding over a lawsuit concerning Church of Scientology properties sold one of those properties to the church nine years ago.

Pinellas-Pasco Circuit Judge Howard P. Rives said there is no conflict in his role because he has ruled only on technical legal points in the case.

But he acknowledged a potential for an appearance of conflict of interest, especially as the broader issues of the case are addressed. He said he wants to remove himself from the case before then.
