For all the bluster around how severely the Trudeau government has scaled back our rights over the past two years, a far more significant violation at the provincial level has been taking place right under our noses.

I'm not referring to the limits that were imposed on social gatherings and recreational amenities, nor to the lockdowns and stay-at-home orders. On these and other rights violations, Ontario Premier Doug Ford's government was rightly given latitude for the simple reason that, in accordance with section 1 of the Charter, a reasonable explanation for why it had chosen to do so was readily available.

However, one violation in particular fell short of this standard.
