Cambridge Ward 1 Coun. Donna Reid said the city is still looking into the opening of a drug rehabilitation centre, associated with the Church of Scientology, that has neighbours concerned.

Narconon Cambridge, located at the end of Pointer Street in a new subdivision off Maple Grove Road, will start accepting patients — or "students" as the centre refers to them — in "the next week or so," according to executive director George Morfopoulos, as final renovations and cleanup are underway.

Reid said she is trying to get answers, as people in the neighbourhood "want to know yesterday" if the renovated home can be used for a Narconon branch.

"Staff is still investigating and still trying to find out the zoning, the planning issues and everything that needs to go along with whether or not such a facility is allowable. We don't know yet," Reid said Tuesday morning.
