It was a slight route change, almost imperceptible on a map.

But with it, a controversial planned highway would cut through homes tucked away in a dense forest north of Toronto — instead of slicing across the edge of a golf course.

When Ministry of Transportation staff revealed a proposal in April for the Bradford Bypass's new route, the government said it would lessen the 16.2-kilometre road's impact to the Holland River and avoid an archaeological site.
