There were hecklers, as well, at Erin O'Toole's news conference on Sunday in Saint-Hyacinthe, Que.

Those ones, however, were journalists raising their voices as they tried to get a straight answer from the Conservative leader about an anti-lockdown conspiracy theory being peddled by one of his party's candidates and longest-serving members of Parliament, Cheryl Gallant.

O'Toole steadfastly ignored reporters' increasingly loud interjections as he dodged question after question about Renfrew—Nipissing—Pembroke candidate Gallant and a fanciful idea she's been propagating among her Ottawa Valley constituents that a re-elected Liberal government could impose a "climate emergency lockdown" on Canadians in the coming months and years.

"What will my home and community look like when the Liberals legislate rolling lockdowns in response to the so-called climate emergency once the COVID pandemic is finally brought under control?" Gallant asks in a two-page article headlined "No More Lockdowns" and printed in the July-August issue of Landowner Voices.
