America Rising taps Romney cash network August 4, 2015,
Romney, the 2012 GOP nominee, has yet to endorse a candidate, and many of his top donors have yet to fully engage in the primary. In June, Romney and his supporters held a weekend retreat in Park City, Utah, where they were courted by a handful of Republican contenders including Scott Walker, Marco Rubio and Chris Christie.
During Wednesday's meeting, Zwick — a much sought-after Republican operative who is one of Romney's closest political confidants — told attendees that he would not be endorsing a candidate in the Republican primary and that he was focused on helping America Rising, which was founded by former Romney campaign manager Matt Rhoades. It was the first major event Zwick has headlined for the group since joining in June.
In an email, Zwick said the meeting had nothing to do with picking a Republican candidate for 2016, but rather building a bank account for America Rising.
