Church withdraws venue change request June 11, 2003,
The church is defending itself in the wrongful-death lawsuit filed by the estate of former Scientologist Lisa McPherson, who died in 1995 after being cared for by church staffers.
The motion for a change of venue came in a related matter, a countersuit against the McPherson estate and its attorney, Ken Dandar. The church alleges that Dandar improperly attempted to add Scientology leader David Miscavige as a defendant in the wrongful- death suit.
Luke Lirot, another attorney for the McPherson estate, seized on Baird's letter as justification for the case to be reassigned to a new judge in St. Petersburg.
