The intersection of Fort Harrison and Pierce Street was probably the most treacherous in the whole tangled snarl, Crawford said.

A cement mixer pouring concrete curbs in front of the Church of Scientology building at 21 N Fort Harrison Ave. blocked one of the two southbound lanes. So drivers looking for alternate routes to Clearwater Beach off Drew and Cleveland streets poured onto that road, creating a jam in all directions.
