Narconon Center Seeking State Certification Relief June 20, 1992,
The Narconon Chilocco New Life Center near Newkirk is asking the Oklahoma Board of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services to exempt it from state certification.
The drug and alcohol treatment center, which had eight patients Thursday, has been battling a state decision that it close down because it was never licensed.
Pat Ryan, a lawyer for the board, said new regulations that take effect July 15 allow some facilities to ask for exemptions if they win accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities.
Narconon has received a one-year accreditation from the commission.
