Scientology fails to get charges dismissed June 20, 1991,
After the preliminary hearing, which lasted 159 days, Judge William Babe of the Ontario Court, provincial division, threw out the possession counts and committed the church to trial on six charges of theft over $200, one charge of theft under $200 and four counts of breach of trust.
About 18 months later, the OPP charged the church with four counts of theft of documents and information, four counts of breach of trust and seven counts of possession. Nine people were also committed to trial after a preliminary hearing in 1988.
